Soy un ecólogo de comunidades que trabaja principalmente en ambientes marinos submareales (bajo el nivel del mar) templados y semitropicales del Pacífico Sur. Mi investigación se realiza a escalas espaciales relevantes para la conservación integrando el impacto humano y la variabilidad ambiental (upwelling o zonas de surgencia). Mi intención es comprender cómo y por qué fluctúan las comunidades dominadas por especies ingenieras como las macroalgas pardas y los corales y su impacto sobre especies asociadas, principalmente los peces. Me interesa aportar al manejo/sustentabilidad de las poblaciones aportando una visión ecosistémica eliminado el tipo de manejo uni-específico imperante mediante la investigación de las interacciones biológicas entre especies y su hábitat, las adaptaciones morfológicas (plasticidad fenotípica) de las especies a diferentes ambientes. Finalmente, como trabajo en un ambiente de muy difícil acceso, mi investigación contempla bastante exploración como la búsqueda de nuevas especies y fenómenos conductuales de organismos marinos.
