The Faculty of Medicine (FMED) and Faculty of Biological Sciences (FBS) at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile invite interested candidates to apply for a tenure-track position and joint appointmentat the level of Assistant or Associate Professor in Biostatistics or Clinical Epidemiology, with a focus on the design and statistical analysis of large-scale clinical and epidemiological studies in the area of preventable human diseases and vaccine research, among others. The position will have a joint affiliation with FMED (primary affiliation) and FBS.
The applicants must demonstrate successful, independent, and interdisciplinary research. In addition, they will be expected
to demonstrate their ability to teach undergraduate and graduate students
in these areas, including the training of new
scientists.

Role
description: The successful candidate will join an
interdisciplinary research environment and contribute to the advancement of
statistical methods applied to clinical research. The appointee is expected to
develop an independent and internationally recognized research career,
participate in collaborative projects, and contribute to undergraduate and
graduate education in the areas of biostatistics and clinical epidemiology.
We seek a researcher with demonstrated expertise in the design and analysis of clinical trials and epidemiological studies, including advanced modeling and inferential methods. The ideal candidate will strengthen the university’s research capabilities in clinical data analysis and will collaborate with ongoing clinical projects, particularly in human infectious diseases and vaccine development, as well as oncology, critical care trials, among others.
Key Responsibilities:
To lead and collaborate to develop independent and internationally recognized research in the field of clinical trials and epidemiological data analysis leading to the generation of new knowledge with projections over human health.
Teach and mentor undergraduate or graduate research students from FMED and FBS in the field of clinical epidemiology data analysis and biostatistics.
To establish collaborations with researchers in the FMED, and FBS or other academic units within the University aiming to develop interdisciplinary research.
To obtain competitive external research funding.
To participate in outreach activities and contribute to public engagement in science and health.
Application requirements:
PhD degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Statistics, or equivalent training in these areas.
With demonstrable competencies in design and advance statistical methodologies for clinical research.
Experience with the analysis of data from clinical trials, cohorts, and other epidemiological studies; familiarity with the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning tools for data analysis is a desirable asset.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams.
A track record of peer-reviewed publications and/or successful grant acquisition.
Commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring, and interest in contributing to graduate programs, especially doctoral training.
Demonstrated proficiency in English. Applicants do not need to speak Spanish at the time of the application but should be able to teach in Spanish in the short term (two years).

Once the complete set of application
materials has been received, the applicant will be contacted within two months and informed
whether his/her application has been accepted
for further consideration. If this initial
screening is successful, the candidate will be asked to give a lecture on
his/her current research topics and hold interviews with the faculty members
from the Selection Committee.
